Managing Worries

The IIH are currently offering two twilight sessions: Managing Worries and an Introduction to Trauma. These are both two-hour sessions that are offered to teachers and teaching assistants within Academy Link schools.

Our aim is to keep our sessions interactive in order to support learning and create meaningful tools that work for individuals.

Managing Worries

The aims of the session is:

  • To understand the purpose of anxiety and where it comes from
  • To begin to listen to our body and attune to our responses
  • To understand anxiety from a child's perspective
  • To classify our worries
  • To begin to develop effective tools and techniques to calm anxiety

Firstly we cover a basic level of how to understand anxiety from a physiological perspective. We discuss the brain and nervous system in order to help us understand the purpose of anxiety and how it occurs in the body and in feelings.

We go on to reflect upon how anxiety can show up behaviourally and in the classroom. We discuss anxiety from a child’s perspective and how co-regulation helps children build more resilience. Finally we practice some practical tools to support children in the classroom who struggle with anxiety.
